Queer Eye alum Carson Kressley has said that presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg being gay should not be the deciding factor in voting for him.
Back when the show was called ‘Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,’ Carson Kressley was the show’s fashion expert.
But Kressley spoke to TMZ, who said he ‘loves that Mayor Pete’s gay but that’s not why I’d vote for him.’
What did he say?
When leaving LAX airport yesterday (9 April), a TMZ reporter spoke to Kressley.
Reportedly, the fasion expert said he hopes people won’t vote for Buttigieg simply for his sexual identity. Rather, they should vote based on merit and experience.
Moreover, he understands why some LGBTI people may instantly support him. It’s a ‘huge deal’ that someone at a presidential candidate level is LGBTI.
Profile: Pete Buttigieg
Before the lead-up to the 2020 Democratic primary began, political pundits believed Texan senatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke to be the up and comer.
But Buttigieg, the openly gay, multilingual mayor of South Bend, Indiana, is the upstart the blue party didn’t see coming.
Pronounced ‘boot-edge-edge,’ as his Twitter bio reads, he’s also a musician (guitar and piano), and came out in 2015 on the eve of the Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality.
He jumped into the race earlier this year, as both the youngest and the sole LGBTI candidate.
