Tom Daley used by haters to keep gay sex illegal in Jamaica

A UK-based anti-gay activist in Jamaica has claimed Tom Daley came out as bisexual because of ‘the lack of a father’.

Andrea Minichiello Williams, co-founder of the UK-based Christian Concern, was in Kingston over the weekend to speak at a ‘pro-family’ conference titled International Law and the Welfare of the Family, organized by the Jamaican Coalition for a Healthy Society and the Christian Lawyers’ Association.

Joined by anti-gay pundit Peter LaBarbera, founder of Americans for the Truth about Homosexuality, the pair rallied support from conservative Christian Jamaicans to keep the country’s colonial ‘buggery laws’.

The anti-sodomy laws, put in place by the British government in 1864 punish private consensual male same-sex acts with up to 10 years in prison with hard labor.

According to Buzzfeed’s J Lester Feder, Williams suggested homosexuality was a ‘big lie’ and used Daley’s recent coming out as an example of how external factors can push some into same-sex behavior.

Williams said Daley who was ‘loved by all the girls and had girlfriends,’ had ‘lost his father to cancer just a few years ago and he’s just come out on YouTube that he’s in a relationship with a man, that man is 39, a leading gay activist in the States.’

Williams referred to recent reports Daley could be dating US screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

She went on to encourage the Jamaican community not to follow the example of the US or the UK in decriminalizing same-sex activity.

‘Might it be that Jamaica says to the United States of America, says to Europe, “Enough! You cannot come in and attack our families. We will not accept aid or promotion tied to an agenda that is against God and destroys our families”.’

Williams added to applause: ‘If you win here, you will have an impact in the Caribbean and an impact across the globe.’

Her counterpart LaBarbera echoed her homophobic sentiments saying: ‘Homosexuals are made, they’re not born.’

LaBarbera’s website publishes ‘success’ stories of formerly gay individuals who’ve converted to heterosexuality.

He claimed homosexuality could be overcome, although scientific evidence proves this is not possible.

‘The dirty little secret that the media and homosexual activists are desperate — desperate — to squelch is that people are coming out of homosexuality every day. This is the work of God, this is the work of Jesus.’

La Barbera also said Jamaica should reject the UK and US models and keep same-sex activity illegal.

‘Do not be like us, do not be like Britain, do not sit idly by as so-called “LGBT activists” manipulate words and laws to achieve dominance in your country.’

He also criticized US President Barack Obama’s support for the growing marriage equality movement throughout the country.

‘I do not stand with my government. I’m a patriotic American, but I do not stand with the current United States government in its promotion of homosexuality and gender confusion.

‘But I do stand with the Jamaican people … I pray that you will learn from our mistakes and from lessons of history and avoid the inevitable moral corruption and health hazards and the danger to young people that come from capitulating to this sin movement that calls itself gay.

‘It is almost now can be predicted with 100% accuracy, if the law is a teacher: If you take down this law, it will only lead to more demands. Appeasement does not work.’

The following video was released by the Jamaican Coalition for a Healthy Society to defeat the repeal to the anti-buggery law.
