Toshiba UK Twitter account hacked with bizarre transphobic comment

Toshiba UK post strange transphobic tweet

The Toshiba UK Twitter account posted a bizarre transphobic tweet in the early hours of Sunday morning (10 September).

At 2:31am, the account simply wrote: ‘Trannies are weird!’

Toshiba UK swiftly removed the tweet.

‘I beg your pardon?’

Twitter user Alan Wilkinson explains how he came across the offensive tweet to Gay Star News: ‘I was bemused and rather puzzled,’ he said.

He continued: ‘I was scrolling through Twitter (trying to convince myself to go to bed) and saw the strange tweet.

He sent a reply saying ‘I beg your pardon?’ but nothing came of it.

Wilkinson revealed to Gay Star News: ‘[I] Didn’t ever get a response and the next time I checked (some hours later) the strange tweet had gone.’

Twitter user James Stevenson also saw the offensive tweet and said in response: ‘@ToshibaUK need to fire their digital marketer.’

Gay Star News approached Toshiba UK for comment and received a response from a spokesperson.

It said: ‘Based on our investigation, we have determined that our Twitter account was hacked on 10¬†September.

‘We have taken swift action to secure it, and we apologize that this offensive Tweet was sent through our official Toshiba UK account.’
