Trailblazer: Samantha Ronson – ‘I was really nervous about DJing in Dubai’

Samantha Ronson has traveled the world during her career as a star DJ

Have you been to a Dinah event before?
Yes. I like any LGBTI event that raises awareness. The Trevor Project event (TrevorLIVE) is an important one.

What’s been the most random destination you’ve visited?
Whitefish, Montana.

Where has been your best travel experience and why?
I’m in love with New Orleans. I love the food and music.

Where has been your biggest traveling disaster?
I’ve been pretty lucky when it comes to travel, knock on wood.

What has been your most romantic trip?

Staying home…

Have you ever experienced homophobia or discrimination abroad?
Of course, but I’ve experienced it here too.

Would you avoid a certain country because of the laws there?
I was really nervous about DJing in Dubai.

What is your favorite thing about your home city?
My dog, Cadillac.

Where were you going the last time you stepped on a plane (other than home)?
Ha. Miami. New Year’s Day. From Cabo, New Year’s Eve.

Where do you hope to go on holiday this year and why?
Staying home is my favorite holiday!

Top tip for coping with jet lag?
Just power through it. Get on local time ASAP!

Where did you typically go on holiday as a kid?
We’re English so Ibiza was our usual, or Sardinia.

Have you ever had a holiday romance?
Ugh. NO!

Do you feel the travel industry caters well for LGBTIs?
I don’t know. I’ve never really looked at travel from that perspective. I think travel post-9/11 sucks for everyone!

Samantha will be DJing at the Club Skirts Dinah Shore Weekend, taking place in Palm Springs California from 30 March until 3 April. For more information, visit
