Trans singer Antony Hegarty nominated for Best Song Oscar

Congratulations Antony!

Antony Hegarty, singer of the band Antony and the Johnsons, has landed an Oscar nomination.

She receives the nod for the song Manta Ray, from the film Racing Extinction, a documentary about the destruction of different species by humanity.

Antony collaborated on the song with J. Ralph.

They will compete with the likes of Sam Smith and Lady Gaga for the award; Sam is nominated for his Bond theme Writing’s On the Wall, while Gaga is nominated for ‘Til It Happens To You from documentary The Hunting Ground.

Fingers crossed for a performance from all three at the ceremony!

Meanwhile, hotly-tipped trans drama Tangerine did not receive any Oscar nominations.
