A nationwide effort to mobilize transgender people and their allies to vote for US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was launched Thursday (25 February).
Trans United for Hillary will also ‘provide volunteer opportunities, host events and release resources’ for transgender people to show support for Clinton during the 2016 election.
‘Over the last seven years, the Obama Administration has made significant progress on transgender rights,’ the group said in a statement on its website.
‘As secretary of state, Hillary played an integral role in some of the most important advancements for transgender people during President Obama’s first term. From reforming policies related to passports for transgender people to incorporating LGBT rights into US foreign policy, Hillary has a record of results on transgender equality.
It added: ‘This election, Hillary has outlined the most detailed plan for transgender equality ever released by a presidential candidate and has the experience and skills necessary to build on the progress of the last decade.’
