Trans woman killed in London, police appeal for witnesses

Vanessa Santillan was strangled and beaten to death.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 33-year-old trans woman was killed in London.

The body of Vanessa Santillan, originally from Miami, Florida, was found in a flat in Fulham, an area of south-west London, on 28 March.

Officers were called to a flat in Romily Court at around 9.30pm where Santillan was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination gave the preliminary cause of death as injuries to the head and neck.

The Met Police has said a 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with her death but has been bailed until late May.

Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Reeves, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: ‘We want to speak to anyone who saw Vanessa on Friday or Saturday.

‘We need to know why this has happened and we want help from anyone who knew her while she was in London.’

Any witnesses or anyone with any information that can assist police are asked to call the incident room on 020 8721 4868 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
