Trump: Obama getting into ‘very tricky territory’ on transgender bathroom issue

Donald Trump opposed gay marriage.

Presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump thinks President Barack Obama has gone too far in trying to protect the bathroom rights of transgender people.

The Obama administration issued directives recently calling on public school districts to let transgender students use bathrooms matching their gender identity.

Trump told Fox News of the directive: ‘Well, it’s not fine. ‘I would generally speaking leave it to the states to decide. Obama’s getting into a very tricky territory. We have to protect everybody … but this is such a tiny part of our population. I would really leave it up to the states.’

Host Bill O’Reilly brought up the topic of gender neutral bathrooms by asking if he had any on Trump properties.

‘No we don’t have that. I hope not,’ Trump said. ‘It would be unbelievably expensive nationwide. It would be hundreds of billions of dollars. It would be an unbelievably expensive thing to do. I think our country would rather have us spending money on other things. The number of people we’re talking about is really a small number.’

The federal government announced earlier this month it is suing the state of North Carolina for its law forcing trans students to use bathrooms matching the gender on their birth certificate.
