Netflix announced they’re adapting the stories of Roald Dahl and Twitter already has the perfect casting suggestion — Sarah Paulson as Miss Honey in Matilda.
Twitter user @sarahpaulzon first made the suggestion on Tuesday (27 November) afternoon. Her tweet quickly racked up over a thousand likes and retweets.
It’s not hard to see the resemblance between Paulson and Embeth Davidtz, who played Miss Honey in the 1996 movie with Mara Wilson.
An important caveat is that Netflix is making an animated series of Dahl’s stories — such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, and others — and not doing a live-action take.
Still, Paulson has a great voice and she would sound perfect as Miss Honey, too.
Twitter clearly agrees.

But who will play Matilda?
Let’s keep the theme going and cast a young LGBTI actor as Matilda. Since it’s an animated project, the age is also a little more flexible than if it were live-action.
Here are some suggestions to get Netflix started.
- Josie Totah
Totah is best known for appearing in shows like Champions and Other People. She came out earlier this year as transgender and is also the one of the youngest person on this list, giving her a bit of a boost to most closely match Matilda’s age (at the start of the book, she’s five-and-a-half). It would be great to see a trans actor given this type of opportunity, especially because of what a beloved character Matilda is.
- Amandla Stenberg
Stenberg just blew us away in the adaptation of The Hate U Give, a story about a police officer shooting an unarmed black teen. She knows how to deliver emotions — her first big role was as Rue in The Hunger Games. Older and more mature now, she has the talent to capture the wonder of Matilda.
- Rowan Blanchard
Besides openly talking about feminism and LGBTI rights, Blanchard won over plenty of people with her role as Cory and Topanga’s daughter Riley in Girl Meets World. Like Totah, Blanchard is 17 and she played even younger on Girl Meets World. She definitely has that vibrant youth to play Matilda.
- Sasha Lane
Lane had her breakout role in 2016’s American Honey. Most recently, she appeared in the conversion therapy movie The Miseducation of Cameron Post. While promoting the movie, she came out as gay. Earlier this year, she also played Kiersey Clemons’ girlfriend in Hearts Beat Loud.
- Kiersey Clemons
Best known for appearing in 2015’s Dope, she’s gone on to appear in Flatliners alongside Ellen Page and the aforementioned Hearts Beat Loud. Her energy would be perfect for Matilda — right after she appears in Disney’s remake of Lady and the Tramp.
Netflix has a deal with Dahl’s family for the projects. Production begins next year and there is no release date yet.
