A teenage gay love story, contemporary dance and a good long shower, what’s not to like about the new dance version of At Swim, Two Boys?
Staged entirely in water by dance company Earthfall, it’s a new version of Irish author Jamie O’Neill’s book of the same name, released to widespread acclaim a decade ago.
It tells the story of the burgeoning love between two teenage boys at the time of the Easter Rising in Ireland early last century.
Back projection is used to show images of the political turmoil in Ireland and the slaughter on the Western Front and the performance is accompanied by a Gaelic score.
It’s got three days left at the Riverside Studios in London (last night 25 February) and will then go on tour around Britain until the end of April, visiting Plymouth, Cardiff, Aberystwyth, Bromsgrove, Salford, Caernarfon, Lincoln, Southampton and Newport. Full tour details are online.
