Two men were arrested in the West Java province of Indonesia for allegedly making a sex video with each other and then uploading it online.

They face charges under the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law, the two men aged 21 and 31, could face up to 12 years in jail, according to reports in kompas.com.

The men were arrested on Saturday evening in the West Java city, Depok. But the video was uploaded online in June last year.

Social media promotion

Depok Police Chief Inspector Sutrisno said the men made the video to promote their services as sex workers on social media.

‘They charge Rp 300,000 (US$22.50) to Rp 700,000 (US$52.50) per date and promote themselves on social media sites, such as Twitter and others,’ he said.

‘According to the one of the men, he is not affiliated with a particular LGBT community, but uses gay social media apps to find sexual partners.’

The police inspector said the men had allegedly secretly filmed their sex scene at a local gym in Depok.

A public tip-off alerted police to the video after the men allegedly uploaded it.

Sutrisno said the case was still being investigated and the men had not yet been charged.

‘The case was revealed after the team conducted cyber patrol online, after a report from the public,’ he said.

‘Currently, the team is still working on developing this case.’

West Java

The two men’s arrest came on the same night a group of men were arrested for hosting a ‘gay sex party’ in another part of West Java. Police had monitored their activity on gay dating apps.

West Java has become a hot spot for Indonesia’s recent crackdown on the LGBTI community or perceived ‘gay’ acts.

Last year, West Java police created a special taskforce that would monitor LGBTI activity in the province.

In September 2017, 12 women had their homes raided and were eventually evicted because they were suspected of being lesbians.
