Underground absinthe bars and street-side mulled wine in Slovenia

Take Slovenia’s breathtaking landscapes, add a dash of holiday spirit, mix in a gay man travelling with his best friend and you’ve got the recipe for an unforgettable holiday.

Tyler Renner, the LGBTQ Program Coordinator at Pacific Pride Foundation, an LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS non-profit advocacy organization in Santa Barbra, California, flew all the way to Slovenia with his bestie Meredith.

Whether they were exploring castles or roaming cobblestone streets, Tyler and Meredith partook in the season’s festivities, and sampled the variety of local cocktails.

Tyler tells Gay Star Travel: ‘Together, Meredith and I went to Slovenia and stayed with a friend in the capital city of Ljubljana. It was the holiday season and we went to the city center, where we enjoyed mulled wine and took in the festively lit cityscape.

‘The final two images were taken at an underground absinthe bar and music venue in the Cultural Quarter. This Quarter hosts many art groups and venues dedicated to avant-garde, indie, punk, and rock shows and events, with a very queer vibe. The people of Slovenia were warm and welcoming and the landscapes, food, music, and vibe of the country parallel no other.’
