US Senator Ted Cruz: ‘If one of my daughters was gay, I would love them just as much’

Is US Senator Ted Cruz getting ready to start dailing down his anti-gay rhetoric?

The Tea Party favorite from Texas attended a reception in Manhattan this week at the apartment of two prominent gay hoteliers where he did not make mention of his outspoken opposition to gay marriage.

There were approximately a dozen people at the reception where Cruz was quoted as saying he wouldn’t problem if one of his daughters was gay, according to The New York Times.

‘Ted Cruz said, "If one of my daughters was gay, I would love them just as much,"’ said Ian Reisner, the business partner of Mati Weiderpass who hosted the penthouse reception.

A year ago, Cruz accused the Obama administration of ‘trying to force gay marriage on all 50 states and introduced a bill that sought to limit federal recognition of same-sex unions.

The State Defense of Marriage Act sought to limit federal programs and benefits to married gay or lesbian couples living in states where same-sex marriage is legal.

An aide for Cruz reiterated on Thursday (23 April) that the senator is still against gay marriage.

Reisner told The Times that he does not agree with Cruz on social issues such as gay marriage but that the issue ‘is done — it’s just going to happen.’
