Vietnam sees first celebrity gay wedding

Vietnam has got its first gay showbiz wedding, just weeks after the southeast Asian country lifted its ban on same-sex marriage.

Fashion designer Adrian Anh Tuan marred his entrpreneur boyfriend Son Doan in a star-studded ceremony last week (24 January) to intense public interest.

Tuan and Doan, both 35 this year, tied the knot in front of 50 guests at a five-star beach resort in the coastal city of Nha Trang.

The couple have known each other for five years, and been together for three, and live together in Ho Chi Minh City.

Tuan is the creative director of fashion brand Valenciani and a regular guest judge on Vietnam’s Next Model.

The designer said he initially wanted to keep the wedding private but he gave into the intense media interest, and the couple even took questions from the public a week after the wedding online.

The response to the wedding was overwhelmingly positive, with netizens expressing their admiration for the couple and asking about their daily life, gay rights and discrimination.

‘We tied the knot finally,’ he wrote on Facebook after the ceremony.
