The revival of classic gay-themed play Boys in the Band has dropped a teaser video with its all-star cast.
The plays stars Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, Andrew Rannells, Jim Parsons, Robin de Jesus, Brian Hutchison and Michael Benjamin Washington.
It will also feature Charlie Carver and Tuc Watkins in their joint Broadway debuts.
Mart Crowley, who also appears in the video, first wrote the Off Broadway play in 1968.
Boys in the Band revolves around nine men at a Manhattan birthday party.
All have various back stories when it comes of their sexualities, and interpersonal relationships with each other. Tensions – sexual, hostile and political – bubble throughout the show.
Producer Ryan Murphy, who recently returned with hit TV show The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, also appears in the clip.
He says: ’We’re going to pound the door in a little bit and show you who we really are, and not be afraid of being gay, not try to hide it or disguise it. That to me is the legacy of the play.’
‘We’re not going anywhere’
Star Trek star Zachary Quinto adds: ’We’ve come so far in the last five years just legislatively. And yet there’s been this explosion of backward and harmful thinking and political ideology that’s swept out country.
He furthermore added: ’We’re responsible for standing up and being acknowledged and celebrating ourselves and celebrating our community in a way that shows these people that are trying to undo the progress we’ve made that we’re not going anywhere.’
Joe Mantello will direct Boys in the Band. It will run from 30 April to 12 August at the Booth Theater in NYC.
