The grandma of a same-sex bride stole the show with one swift comment on her granddaughter’s wedding day.

Amy and Elise McDonald became one of the first same-sex couples to marry in Melbourne, Australia today (16 December).

Held in Carlton Gardens, the ceremony was small and intimate.

Amy McDonald told 7News: ‘You don’t choose who you fall in love with. At the end of the day, Elise was the perfect person for me.’

The wedding comes about after Australia legalized same-sex marriage last week. The couple were allowed to waive the 30-day notice period because they were already planning a civil partnership.
