Sarah Paulson in American Horror Story: Cult

A new trailer for American Horror Story: Cult gives us the best look at the upcoming season yet. And Sarah Paulson looks terrific — as well terrified.

The little we knew about the new season prior to this trailer was that it would be about the 2016 US elections. And there would be elements of clowns and bees. Now, we know a whole lot more.

The trailer starts with election night and Paulson’s Ally screaming horrifically as Trump gets elected.

Things only get worse from there. As Ally talks with her therapist (Cheyenne Jackson), we learn she has coulrophobia (fear of clowns) and we get glimpses of Twisty from the season Freak Show. Allison Pill plays Paulson’s partner in the season.

Evan Peters, an AHS veteran, looks to be playing crazed Trump supporter Kai (he literally pelvic thrusts his TV as Trump wins) and possible member of the ‘cult’. He asks Billie Lourd what fills her with dread and she says children. Next thing we see, Lourd gets hired as a babysitter for Paulson and Pill’s son, giving him a figure of Twisty.

It all hits a little too close to home, but that’s what will hopefully make it intriguing.

The season premieres 5 September on FX.
