Saturday Night Live
Tinay Fey has a message for anyone taking part in far-right violence

Tina Fey has slammed Charlottesville protesters in a new Saturday Night Live sketch.

Joining hosts of the Weekend Update Colin Jost and Michael Che, Fey took center stage with ‘a more personal take’ on the Charlottesville protests on the parody news show.

‘A lot of us are feeling anxious, and asking ourselves what can I do?

‘I’d urge people this Saturday instead of taking part in screaming matches and potential violence. Find a local business you support.’

At which point, she focused down hard on finding some kind of bakery.

Specifically a Jewish or African American. Cue, Fey stuffing her face with cake as she sent a damning message to far fight protesters:

‘Love is love Colin’ she spurted out through mouthfuls of cake when the hosts questioned what on earth this was all about.

‘The next time you see a bunch of white boys, in polo shirts scream about taking our country back. And you want to scream it’s not our country, we stole it from the native Americans – and when they have a peaceful protest – we shoot at them with rubber bullets… but we let you chinless turds walk through the streets.

‘Don’t yell it at the Klan Colin, yell it at the cake.’

Country bracing for more protests

There are as many as nine more rallies around the country, including in New York, that could happen this weekend.

There, Fey hopes the Neo-Nazi protesters do actually try to hold the rally because one of them is due to be held in Washington Square Park. This is in the Greenwich village close to the LGBTI iconic venue the Stonewall Inn.

This is where the modern gay rights movement was born. LGBTI people, drag queens and people of color took a stand against a wave of police brutality cracking down on gay bars.

In the sketch, Fey says: ‘Part of me hopes these Neo-Nazis try it, and get their ham salad kicked out of them by a bunch of drag queens – cos you know what drag queens still are? They are still, a six foot four, black man.’

Before of course stressing, that she doesn’t really want any more violence.

And that’s a message we can get our heads round.

Let them eat cake.
