President-elect Donald Trump and President Barack Obama had a surprisingly cordial 90 minute meeting at The White House today.
The meeting took place less than 48 hours after the end of Trump’s bitter campaign against Hillary Clinton came to a surprising end and led to protests in the divided nation.
The two men had never met in person before but had been very critical of each other while on the campaign trail.
Trump is now calling Obama ‘a very good man’ after spending years pursuing Obama over false claims he is not a natural-born American.
‘Mr President, it was a great honor being with you and I look forward to being with you many, many more times,’ Trump said as the two met reporters after their private meeting.
Trump also said he would seek ‘counsel’ from Obama.
Said Obama: ‘My No. 1 priority in the next two months is to try to facilitate a transition that ensures our President-elect is successful.’
He then told Trump: ‘If you succeed, the country succeeds.’
