Yes, we know ‘what if Disney princesses were…’ is now beyond parody, but this is incredibly well done and very sweet.
Samantha Urrata, a college student, has drawn some of her favorite characters from Disney in same-sex relationships.
As there are no openly gay princesses, she wondered what it would look like if Princess Jasmine jumped into the arms of Mulan or The Little Mermaid’s Ariel shared a moment with Lilo and Stitch’s Nani.
Speaking to Refinery29, she said her work, femslash, is an ‘attempt to close the gap between the media we are given the media we want.’
‘This is by no means a solution,’ she added. ‘Media needs to be inclusive, because there is only so much that fan-made representation can do, but by creating and sharing their work, fan artists and fan fiction writers are touching a lot of people and doing a lot of good.’
