Why Ricky Martin’s ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ might not have come out if not for Madonna

Ricky Martin and Madonna

Ricky Martin has revealed that his signature song Livin’ La Vida Loca might not have been released if it wasn’t for Madonna.

The pair were recording the song Be Careful together, when Madonna expressed enthusiasm for Ricky’s future Billboard Hot 100 hit.

Speaking about his first English-speaking record, which was being rush-released after his Grammys performance, he said: ‘This album was almost going to be released without ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca.’

He furthermore continued: ‘[But] three days before I walked into the studio with Madonna, we were done with “Livin’ La Vida Loca.”‘

‘So I showed her what I was presenting — and she was like, ‘Yep! I’m ready to go into the studio with you!’

‘I will always go back to it’

The star was speaking to the Hollywood Reporter when he made the comments.

‘It was a very beautiful moment. I will always go back to it.’

Material Girl singer Madonna turned 60 last week.

Yesterday, she was criticised by music fans for making a ‘self-indulgent’ tribute to Aretha Franklin at the MTV VMAs.

Meanwhile She Bangs singer Ricky hit TV screens this year in the series The Assassination of Gianni Versace.

The show was nominated for seven Emmys earlier this year.
