Thanks to Visit Denmark, Gay Star News, and G-A-Y, two girls came to Charing Cross in London to party one night, and woke up in Copenhagen to see the Eurovision finale and tour the city.
Catheriya and Jordan came to G-A-Y on 9 May to join Visit Denmark’s Eurovision party, where guests were encouraged to show up with their passports to enter to win a VIP weekend in Copenhagen.
10 passport holders were called to stage after midnight, and after a round of Eurovision questions and lip-syncing, Catheriya and Jordan were told to grab their bags and jump into a car that would take them to the airport.
Hours later, the girls were welcomed with champagne and smiles in Copenhagen, the host city for Eurovision 2014. The entire city was caught up in Eurovision fever, with clubs and squares converted into super-fan spaces to celebrate the international song competition.
‘The whole thing was just so surreal,’ Catheriya told Gay Star News.
‘We just kept on asking ourselves: “How did we even get here?”’
‘We loved the fact that Visit Denmark had winners from all over the world, all over Europe, who’d had time to prepare, and we rolled up having had no sleep in the same clothes.’
‘Being there to see Conchita win was amazing. We were right at the front. We got the VIP treatment the whole way through. What an amazing way to see Denmark for the first time.’
The girls were expert selfie takers, and are kind enough to take Gay Star Readers on their epic Eurovision journey.
