A woman named Quran, who goes by the Twitter handle @chckpeas, recently tricked Trump supporters into their money — and their dignity — in a hilarious ploy.
Though some reports falsely stated Quran earned thousands from said Trump supporters, she still accomplished what she set out to do, before calling Trump homophobic and racist, and refusing to support him.
It all started when Quran went to visit friends at Howard, an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) in Washington DC. Quran is currently taking a semester off from the university, where she studies art history.
She found a ‘Make American Great Again’ hat on campus and decided to take a photo wearing it.
It was all for an epic troll — and revealing some truths.
So what did she do?
Quran posted the photo of her wearing the hat on Twitter, declaring herself a black Republican.
She kept the story going, even elaborting it far enough to bring her parents into it.
In subsequent tweets, she said her parents were kicking her out and no longer supporting her financially. She also posted alleged texts between her and her other mother, which she later admitted were fabricated.
Then Quran drove the whole thing home: she set up a GoFundMe fundraiser for her college tuition.
‘If you can find it in your hearts to help this young, black republican pay for school it would be appreciated,’ she wrote.
It was only hours later that she revealed the truth.
Quran called Trump a ‘racist, homophobic, transphobic bigot’. She then asked everyone: ‘YOU THINK MY BLACK ASS WOULD SUPPORT THAT ROTTING CARROT??’
She also revealed part of her intentions with this ploy, and highlighting hypocrisy around racism.
The outcome of the troll
She didn’t raise all that much on the GoFundMe site and refunded all the money that was donated.
‘I just felt really weird about taking their money. This could go south really fast, I just decided to refund everyone and give their money back. I think it was like maybe $200 at that point,’ she told NY Magazine.
Quran continued, explaining her point more: ‘Yeah, I can’t pay for school but I don’t want Republican money to pay for it. I just want everyone to think I’m the finesse queen, which I am.’
She also talked further about the idea that Republicans are eager to prove they’re not racist.
‘A lot of Republicans have this idea that everyone thinks Republicans are mostly racist and they’re really desperate to get that stigma off of them. I just felt like capitalizing on that,’ Quran revealed.
Turns out, she tapped into something with that.
The power of the Internet.
