Zachary Quinto is in mourning.

The Star Trek actor has taken to Instagram to pay a heartfelt tribute to his dog Noah who had to be put down.

‘Anyone who has ever truly known me in the last 14 years has known this true prince,’ Quinto writes.

‘Noah has been by my side through up and down. thick and thin. feast and famine.’

The 39-year-old actor was busy doing guest star roles on television when Noah came into his life and was still three years away from reaching stardom on the NBC series Heroes.

Quinto, who came out publicly as a gay man in 2011, writes of how Noah changed his life during their time together.

‘In loving him I learned to love myself more fully. He taught me compassion and patience and generosity… and oh how he made me laugh.

‘He made friends wherever he went. His spirit was pure. His love was legend. I am a better person for having had him in my life.’

But the time had come.

‘Tonight we had to let him go. surrounded by love he went to sleep. And may he forever rest in peace.’
